The Importance Of Restoring Dignity To Homeless People

What would happen… if you got an average individual, slapped some dirty/smelly clothes on him and had him live on the streets for one year? If people treated him as if he didn’t exist or as if he was less important than a dog here in America? If he was told he is garbage, stupid, and a moron? Then robbed, beat up, and cursed at on an occasional basis?

Many homeless people have lost their dignity being on the streets for so long. The difficulty of their recovery lies in their loss of understanding their own importance. If you are treated a certain way, then many times (unfortunately) you will act a certain way. This is the phenomenon happening on the streets.

What if you treated them as if they were important? a CEO of a large company? or for women, a beautiful, smart individual? or better yet, a child of God. I don’t think most of us even realize it ourselves.

Life and death are in the power of the tongue. If you speak life into someone, more than clothes, food, or any other type of material assistance, THAT will be one of the biggest contributing factors for their personal victory.

This is what we do at Babysteps ministry. We restore dignity to them by the way we treat them and speak to them. This is one of the foundational stepping stones to turning ones life around.
